Former Tennessee basketball star Dale Ellis (1980-83) is one of seven 2011 inductees into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.
The induction ceremony will take place Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Macon City Auditorium in Macon, Ga.
Ellis, a forward, stands alongside the most elite and widely recognized Vols ever to don the Orange and White. The Marietta, Ga., native was a two-time All-America and three-time first-team All-SEC performer under head coach Don DeVoe. Ellis also was twice named the SEC Player of the Year (1982 and 1983). He finished his career ranking third on Tennessee's career scoring list with 2,065 points while setting single-season (.654 in 1981-82) and career (.595) field-goal percentage records.
The Dallas Mavericks selected Ellis with the ninth overall pick in the 1983 NBA Draft and he played 19 seasons in the NBA for nine different teams. He developed into an All-Star and one of the most accurate 3-point shooters in league history. He scored more than 19,000 career points, averaged more than 15 points per game and shot better than 40 from long range during his illustrious NBA career.
