Duo Advances In ITA Doubles Main Draw

FINAL QUALIFYING DOUBLES DRAWS 
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Tennessee women's tennis sophomore Brynn Boren and freshman Sarah Toti earned a spot in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships doubles main draw Thursday - and then advanced to the second round - after winning three total matches at the Riviera Tennis Club.
After a UCLA injury, No. 28 Boren and Toti capped the day with a 4-3 ret. decision over No. 21 Courtney Dolehide and Pamela Montez in the event's main draw.
The victory sets up a Friday meeting at 9 a.m. PST with No. 5 Kristy Frilling and Shannon Mathews (Notre Dame), the highest-ranked opponent the two have faced this season.
The combo opened Thursday needing a pair of wins to advance from the qualifiers to the main draw and delivered. Boren and Toti started the day with a 9-8 (2) tiebreaker victory over its first ranked opponent of the season, No. 43 Juliette Coupez and Stephanie Hoffpauir of San Diego.
With a record of 6-1 together at Tennessee, Boren and Toti used an 8-4 decision against No. 17 Emina Bektas and Brooke Bolender (Michigan) to punch their ticket to the main draw, one of four allotted qualifier spots.
Boren and Toti defeated their first opponent of the qualifying round, Oklahoma State's Meghan Blevins and Kanyapat Narattana, 8-5, on Tuesday.
Senior Natalie Pluskota and freshman Joanna Henderson also competed in the opening round of the doubles main draw, Thursday falling 8-3 to No. 27 Courtney McLane and Taylor Lindsey (Alabama). The 22nd-ranked duo will play in a consolation bracket Saturday.
Singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 3-6 in Flushing, N.Y.
The All-American Championship began in 1983 and features the top 128 players in the country.
