Roberta Martin, wife of Tennessee basketball head coach Cuonzo Martin, and the rest of the UT basketball staff wives are hosting a "Basketball 101" event for women Friday, Oct. 28 at Thompson-Boling Arena.
The cost to attend event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is $75. The deadline to register is Wednesday, Oct. 19, and space is limited. To register, please visit: UTtix.com.
Basketball 101 is an opportunity for Vol-loving women to learn basic principles of various offensive and defensive schemes, rules of the college game and other basketball-related tips that will give women a better understanding of the sport. The event also features lunch and a fashion show, during which the staff wives will model Tennessee gameday attire.
"We really want to give women an opportunity to better understand the game of basketball," Roberta Martin said. "Once you have an appreciation for some of the nuances of the sport, it makes going to the games or watching them on television that much more fun and enjoyable.
"Ultimately, that's what this event is all about--making the experience fun. We're all really excited for it."
Other activities on the agenda include a tour of UT's basketball facilities and a Q&A session with the Tennessee coaching staff and their wives. Also, strength and conditioning coach Troy Wills will give participants a presentation on basketball-specific training vs. normal daily exercise.
Check-in on Oct. 28 begins at 9:30 a.m. Attire is casual, but athletic dress and sneakers are encouraged.
