The Tennessee Lady Vol basketball team concluded a busy week with a spirited practice on Friday afternoon in Pratt Pavilion and will now enjoy the weekend off.
Five consecutive days of tough practice, a couple of grueling early morning workouts with strength & conditioning coach Heather Mason, picture day, and a Jumbotron video shoot made for a busy week.
UT had nine players for portions of the workout on Friday, as junior Taber Spani got the green light to participate and freshman Ariel Massengale was able to go through some non-contact drills. Senior Shekinna Stricklen missed practice to attend a funeral. Still completely sidelined was junior guard Kamiko Williams.
Jenny Moshak, Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine, cleared Spani on Thursday. The junior guard had surgery on her left elbow on Oct. 4 to remove scar tissue build-up and made great progress in her rehab. Massengale missed the last week after suffering a concussion in practice on Oct. 10. She is still listed as day-to-day and is starting back with some light ball handling and shooting.
Williams continues to rehab her left knee following anterior cruciate ligament reconstructive surgery on July 22, 2011. Williams injured her knee on July 7 while playing in the Women's Pilot Rocky Top Basketball League.
Before their much-deserved weekend off, the players talked about how quickly the preseason is going. "It's hard to believe that our first exhibition game is just 11 days away," said fifth-year senior Vicki Baugh, who is completing her eligibility while enrolled in graduate school at UT.
The Lady Vols open their exhibition slate on Nov. 1 versus Carson-Newman in Thompson-Boling Arena at 7 p.m.

Jumbotron Magic Both the Lady Vol and Vol basketball teams enjoyed a little on-court, off-court time on Wednesday evening in Thompson-Boling Arena shooting the Jumbotron player introductions for the 2011-12 season.
SEC Media Day Coming Up All 12 men's and women's Southeastern Conference basketball teams will be attending the annual SEC Media Day in Birmingham, Ala., on Thurs., Oct. 27. Tennessee's Vicki Baugh will accompany Coach Pat Summitt to the event.
