Gruver Recognized as CB360 Primetime Pitcher of the Week

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - After logging seven shutout innings against 10th-ranked Oregon State this weekend, University of Tennessee sophomore southpaw Steven Gruver has been named the CollegeBaseball360.com Primetime Pitcher of the Week, the web site announced Tuesday.
A native of Canfield, Ohio, Gruver picked up the first win of his collegiate career with a sterling performance against the Beavers on Saturday, getting the Volunteers back on track after a 17-1 loss the previous night. The 6-1 lefty threw seven shutout innings, while striking out a career-high nine and allowing only three hits and one walk.
Gruver allowed just two runners to reach second and none to advance to third during his time on the mound. He threw a total of 97 pitches with 65 going for strikes and sat down 11 of the final 12 batters he faced, including 10 straight at one point.
The UT sophomore headlines a Primetime Performer Honor Roll that includes 20 other players who delivered in the clutch during the past week of college baseball action. TCU's Jason Coats was tabbed as the Primetime Player of the Week. The list of 21 honorees, including Gruver, is comprised of 10 pitchers, four third basemen, two first basemen, a catcher, one second baseman and one outfielder from each spot (LF-CF-RF).
