KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee baseball team will be featured in a total of seven televised games in 2010, the Southeastern Conference announced on Monday. In addition, UT, in conjunction with the Vol Network, announced that 47 of the squad's 56 regular-season games are scheduled for broadcast locally on WNML "The Sports Animal" (AM 990, FM 99.1 and 99.3), with veteran play-by-play man John Wilkerson on the call.
The seven televised contests are part of the SEC's 2010 baseball television schedule, the first under a new 15-year contract with ESPN. The regular-season package will include 46 broadcasts in 2010, up from eight games in 2009. In addition, all games from the 2010 SEC Tournament will continue to be broadcast, with the championship game airing nationally on ESPN2.
All seven of Tennessee's televised games will take place within the friendly confines of Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville with the Volunteers making their television debut on March 26 against defending national champion LSU at 7 p.m. on Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS). The second game of that series will be televised as well, when FOX Sports Net (FSN) airs the game live at 3 p.m. the next day.
Tennessee will appear on CSS four more times with games against Florida on April 11 at 12:30 p.m., Vanderbilt at 7 p.m. on both April 23 and 24, and against Alabama in the regular-season finale at 1 p.m. on May 22. The Orange and White's lone ESPNU showing will take place at 5 p.m. on April 30 against Kentucky. In addition, ESPN360.com will stream each television broadcast live online except for UT's ESPNU contest against the Wildcats.
Wilkerson is entering his 12th season as the radio play-by-play voice of Tennessee baseball and will be joined for most broadcasts by veteran color analyst Kyle Hixson and first-year postgame analyst Roger Hoover. WNML "The Sports Animal" will begin its 2010 Vol baseball coverage with the second game of the opening series against Xavier at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20.
All games available on WNML will also be streamed online at UTsports.com for free. This service, compliments of the Vol Network, allows Vol baseball fans outside the local broadcast area an opportunity to follow the action all season long at no cost. UTsports.com will provide a free video stream of as many as 10 additional games. WNML's audio feed will accompany the free video stream when available.
