UT Baseball Announces All-Decade Teams

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Following an online fan vote, the University of Tennessee announced the first and second All-Decade Baseball Teams at the 18th Annual Leadoff Banquet on Friday at the Knoxville Convention Center. The two teams include a total of 30 players, including 19 that played in the College World Series and 12 that claimed All-American honors during their time at Rocky Top.
Highlighting the first team are four current major leaguers in third baseman Chase Headley (San Diego Padres), shortstop Chris Burke (Cincinnati Reds), outfielder Julio Borbon (Texas Rangers) and starting pitcher Luke Hochevar (Kansas City Royals). Current Vol Cody Hawn was voted in as the first baseman, while catcher J.P. Arencibia, second baseman Michael Rivera, outfielders Kentrail Davis and Eli Iorg, utility player Rob Fitzgerald, designated hitter Alex Suarez, starting pitchers James Adkins and Craig Cobb, relief pitcher Brandon Crowe and closer Sean Watson round out the squad.
The second team included seven CWS participants in catcher Javi Herrera, second baseman Stevie Daniel, shortstop Eric King, outfielders Josh Alley and Jeff Christensen, utility player Kelly Edmundson and designated hitter Brandon Hopkins. Another current Vol in Bryan Morgado was tabbed as the second-team relief pitcher and first baseman Nick Crowe, third baseman Cody Brown, outfielder Jordan Czarniecki, starting pitchers Nick Hernandez, Jamie Bennett and Ben Riley and closer Scot Drucker finalize the all-decade selections.
The University of Tennessee will open the 2010 campaign at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 19, when it is set to open a three-game series with Xavier at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville.
