KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee baseball team announced Wednesday that juniors Blake Forsythe, Josh Liles, Bryan Morgado and Rob Catapano will serve the squad's captains for the 2010 campaign.
A 6-2 right-hander from Memphis, Tenn., Forsythe brings extensive experience to the catcher position, having spent the summer with the USA Collegiate Baseball National Team after earning All-SEC First Team honors as a sophomore. During his second season at Rocky Top, Forsythe started 53 of the team's 55 games behind the plate and hit .347 with 15 home runs and 36 RBIs.
UT's projected starting centerfielder, Liles started 35 games for the Vols in 2009 before injuring his wrist while diving for a fly ball on April 11 against Mississippi State. Before the injury, Liles was hitting at a .313 clip with eight home runs, 25 RBIs and eight stolen bases.
Morgado enters the 2010 season as Tennessee's Friday night starter. The 6-3 left-hander from Miami, Fla., is one of just three college players drafted in the first three rounds of last year's MLB First Year Player Draft to return to school, as he was selected 102nnd overall by the Chicago White Sox. The junior has a career record of 9-7 with a 5.29 ERA and 179 strike outs in 132.2 innings of work.
Catapano will don the Orange and White for the first time this season as he sat out last season after transferring from North Carolina where he was a part of two teams that participated in the College World Series. The only player with experience in Omaha on the UT roster, Catapano was 5-1 during his time with the Tar Heels, registering a 3.42 ERA in 46 appearances, including seven starts.
