Tennessee sophomores Edward Jones and Max Stevens kick off the Vols' stay at the ITA All-American Championships with the first two rounds of singles prequalifying Saturday in Tulsa, Okla.
Sophomore Taylor Patrick, fresh off his Division III title run at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships, will be in action this weekend at the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational, which runs from Saturday until Monday. Junior Bryan Swartz and recent freshman walk-on Colton Norton are also competing in Atlanta.
In Tulsa...
Neither Jones nor Stevens received a first-round bye in Saturday's prequalifying, so both are scheduled to start at 8 a.m. Central. Jones faces Oregon's Ryan Proctor, and Stevens plays Max Stratmann from Texas at San Antonio. With a win, they would play a second match in the afternoon.
Both Jones and Stevens have a 1-1 record this season.
Pre-qualifying at the All-American lasts four rounds spread over two days, with the top 16 players moving into the qualifying draw. From there, the qualifying lasts three rounds, and winners advance into the main draw.
Senior Matteo Fago and sophomore Tennys Sandgren start their All-American journey in the singles and doubles qualifying rounds beginning Monday. Defending singles and doubles champion John-Patrick Smith and sophomore Rhyne Williams automatically secured positions in the main draw, which starts Oct. 7.
Live scoring and video streaming for the All-American Championships will be available on Tulsa's tennis page
In Atlanta...
Patrick, Swartz and Norton are all scheduled to play in the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational beginning Saturday morning.
Patrick, who has started the season 6-0, attempts to continue his winning streak when he faces MTSU's Elliot Barnwell in the Flight A round of 32. Swartz, currently 2-1, plays Auburn's Michel Monteiro. Patrick and Swartz are teaming up in doubles and play the top-seeded Vanderbilt duo, Adam Baker and Charlie Jones.
In the second flight, Norton plays Armstrong Atlantic's Daniel Regan.
Because of scheduling crossover with the All-American, there are no ranked NCAA Division I players in the tournament draw. Last season, Williams defeated Fago in the finals to win the Georgia Tech Invitational.
