Second Phase of Renovations Begins at Lindsey Nelson Stadium

By Cameron Harris, Assistant Media Relations DirectorKNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The second of four phases of renovations has begun at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville. Included will be the addition of a new club area and MVP seating behind home plate that will allow fans to sit closer to the field. Permanent chair-back seating will also be added throughout the entire main grandstand, while the stadium's exterior will be faced with brick. In addition, a new batting cage facility, approximately 60 yards in length, will be added down the right-field line and the visitor's locker room behind the third-base dugout will be renovated. Work is scheduled to be completed prior to the beginning of the 2010 campaign.
"The current renovations will make Lindsey Nelson Stadium one of the premier facilities in the country once again," Raleigh said. "The commitment shown by the University of Tennessee to our program has been absolutely spectacular and these additions prove that. The MVP sections will provide our fans with better seats than they have ever had and the batting cage facility will be one, if not the most impressive in the nation when it is finished."
The first phase, complete prior to the 2009 season, included more than $4 million worth of improvements, primarily to player development areas. Work was finished on a team clubhouse that features a state-of-the art locker room, training room and coaches' office complex. Phase I also included the addition of nearly 1,000 seats down the right-field line, as well as a party plaza, and saw the field surface replaced.
Phase three will include the construction of a new press box and luxury suites, while the fourth and final phase will add permanent stands down the left-field line.
