The Tennessee baseball team continues its 12-game homestand Wednesday afternoon when it hosts USC-Upstate for a 4 p.m. contest.
Freshman left-hander Adam Adkins (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will start on the mound for Tennessee, while USC Upstate sends freshman right-hander Austin Moyer (0-1, 10.38 ERA) to the hill.
Adkins is a native of Goodlettsville, Tenn., and will be making his first collegiate appearance.
The Spartans bring a 2-4 (0-0 A-Sun) record into Tuesday's game and are hitting .299 as a team with an 8.05 staff ERA. Junior first baseman Jimmy Tanner leads the club with a .464 batting average including 13 hits, three doubles and 12 RBI. Senior short stop Eric Guillen is second on the team with eight RBI.
Tennessee leads the all-time series with USC Upstate (formerly South Carolina-Spartanburg) 4-1, dating to 1987.
Tennessee assistant coach Bradley LeCroy and Spartans assistant coach Russell Triplett were college teammates--both infielders--at Clemson. And when LeCroy vacated the position of volunteer assistant coach at Clemson following the 2005 season, Triplett took over that post in 2006. Triplett is now in his second third as USC Upstate's infielders coach.
