The fourth-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team plays its first match at home in almost three weeks Saturday when it hosts 31st-ranked Kentucky at the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will not count towards either teams SEC record.
"We better be ready for Kentucky," UT head men's tennis coach Sam Winterbotham said. "They will be as good as any team we face this year. Our guys have to understand that this is a very strong and very capable Kentucky team. It will be a great test for us and also we're looking forward to getting a look at SEC competition."
UT (7-1) has played its last four matches in the state of Illinois, one in Champaign and three in Chicago at the ITA Indoor Championships. UT made good use of its time away from Knoxville, as it defeated three teams ranked in the top-15, including a 4-3 win over then No. 1-ranked Ohio State.
Kentucky's (6-2) only losses this season are to top-ranked Virginia and ninth-ranked Ole Miss. The Wildcats are led by senior Bruno Agostinelli, who is ranked eighth in singles and freshman Eric Quigley, ranked 83rd.
Last season, UT won both matches against Kentucky and lead the all-time series with the Wildcats, 43-35.
