Rowing Finishes 12th at Head of Charles Regatta

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee rowing team finished 12th in a field of 32 boats in the Championship 8+ race at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass., on Sunday.
Leading the UT shell was senior coxswain Katie Ross. Her boat of Jewell Ludwigsen, Laura Miller, and Kate Snider, juniors Libi Bruncviková, Mary Beth Dreusike, and Rachel Dooley, and freshmen Erika Johnson and Karoline Mikolajewski completed the course in 17:16.15, just eight seconds behind the 11th-place shell.
The ASR Nereus squad took first with a time of 16:08.165, followed by the US Rowing Training Center at 16:32.502. Coming in third with a 16:43.750 time was the Yale University Crew team.
This is the seventh Top-15 finish for the Lady Vols at this regatta. In 2007, the Orange and White produced its best result in program history at the Head of the Charles, taking fifth.
The varsity squad has the next two weeks off from competition and will return to action Nov. 7 at the Head of the Hooch in Chattanooga, Tenn. The first year rowers will take to the water for thier first fall competition on Oct. 31 at the Secret City Head Race in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
