The Tennessee men's tennis team begins play in 2009 when it opens play Friday at the SEC Coaches' Indoor Championships hosted by the University of Kentucky.
The event is comprised of a 64-man singles field and a 32-team doubles draw. There are 11 SEC players ranked in the top-50 of the season's first singles poll, led by LSU's Michael Venus ranked second.
Two juniors (Matt Brewer and Davey Sandgren), two sophomores (John-Patrick Smith) and Jeremy Tweedt) and one freshman (Christian Hansen) make up UT's contingent at the tournament.
Last season, Smith was named SEC Freshman of the Week after advancing to the semifinals of the SEC indoors with wins over three ranked players, including future SEC Player of the Year Greg Ouellette.
Play is scheduled to begin Friday morning and run through Monday.
