Last week's highlights from former Tennessee players in professional baseball include some hot hitting and a season ending injury. Below are the best performances from former Vols during last week's action.
Augie Ojeda (1996) has been hitting well for the Arizona Diamondbacks since taking over the starting second base job for the injured Orlando Hudson. In his last 10 games, Ojeda is hitting .296 (8-for-27) along with eight runs scored. The .296 average is 32 points above his season average of .264. His top performances during this stretch include a 2-for-4 game with two runs scored against the San Diego Padres on Tuesday along with a 2-3 performance with a run scored on Friday against the Florida Marlins.
Luke Hochevar (2003-05) was placed on MLB's 60-day disabled list on Wednesday and will be out for the remainder of the season after an injury sustained before the sixth inning of Tuesday night's game against the Cleveland Indians. Hochevar had a 6-12 record with a 5.51 ERA in 22 starts for the Kansas City Royals this season. He threw 129.0 innings allowing 143 hits and 73 earned runs while walking 47 and striking out 72.
R.A. Dickey (1994-96) moved this week from the Seattle Mariners starting rotation to the bullpen in what the Mariners hope will be a better use of his talent. As a starter, Dickey has a record of 2-7 with a 6.03 ERA in 12 starts over 68 2/3 innings. In 10 relief appearances, including two scoreless innings Friday night, he is 1-0 with a 1.67 ERA in 27 innings. Opposing batters are hitting .186 against him when he pitches in relief, as compared to .313 as a starter.
Julio Borbon (2005-07) is continuing his hot hitting for the Class-AA Frisco Roughriders. In 52 games this season, Borbon is batting .326 with 72 hits, 10 doubles, five home runs and 18 RBI. He also has 14 stolen bases. This weekend he went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI on Sunday in a 9-3 victory over the Midland Rockhounds along with going 3-for-5 with two runs scored in a 10-1 victory over Midland on Saturday.
