Last week???s highlights from former Tennessee players in professional baseball include a promotion for a young pitcher and a continued scoreless streak for a veteran. Below are the best performances from former Vols during last week???s action.
?????James Adkins (2005-07) was promoted to Class-AA Jacksonville on July 22. Before being promoted from Class-A Inland Empire, he was 5-8 with a 5.34 ERA. He also recorded 75 strikeouts in 87.2 innings. In his first start for the Suns, Adkins pitched 4.2 innings giving up three runs on four hits, surrendering two home runs. He also walked three and struck out three. Adkins got the loss as the Suns dropped Thursday's game 3-4 to the Mobile Bay Bears.
?????Mike Lincoln (1996) has dominated the Major Leagues during the month of July. Since the beginning of the month, he has a 1-0 record and has not allowed a run. During that time he has only allowed five hits while striking out 14. He has not allowed a run since he allowed one against the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 19, covering 16.2 innings. This season he has appeared in 39 games for the Cincinnati Reds, the most games in a season since he appeared in 55 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates since 2002. For the season, Lincoln has a record of 1-2 with a 3.47 ERA in 49.1 innings. He has 45 strikeouts and only 13 walks.
?????Josh Alley (2003-05) is batting .288 for the Class-AA San Antonio Missions. He has recorded 57 hit, 10 doubles, one triple and two home runs. He also has 18 RBIs and seven stolen bases. On Saturday, against the Frisco Rough Riders, Alley went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored.
?????Deunte Heath (2006) earned his second win for Class-AA Mississippi on Saturday as the young pitcher threw seven innings allowing only one run on six hits. He also struck out seven while walking one. The Braves won the game 3-2 over the Birmingham Barons. Heath is now 2-4 with a 5.26 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP.
