43 former Vols head to NFL training camp

A total of 43 former Vols are NFL training camp rosters as teams open preseason practice this weekend. Listed below are the players with their respective teams. Check out the NFL's Training Camp site for the latest news.
Quarterback Peyton Manning and defensive end Leonard Little look forward to their 11th season in the NFL as the most experienced former Vols, while rookies Erik Ainge, Jonathan Hefney, Jerod Mayo, Eric Young, Chris Brown, Brad Cottam and J.T. Mapu experience their first training camp.
There is at least one former Vol on 24 of the 32 NFL teams. Carolina, Green Bay, Kansas City, Cleveland and Jacksonville each boast three former UT gridiron players.
There are 23 defensive players, including a dozen defensive linemen, seven defensive backs and three linebackers. Of the 19 offensive players, there are seven offensive linemen, five wide receivers, three tight ends, two running backs and two quarterbacks. There is one punter.
Important NFL Dates
Aug. 3 -- Pro Football Hall of Fame Game, Canton, Ohio (Indianapolis vs. Washington).
Aug. 26 -- Roster cutdown to maximum of 75 players.
Aug. 30 -- Roster cutdown to maximum of 53 players.
Aug. 31 -- Clubs may establish practice squad of eight players.
Sept. 4-8 -- 2008 regular season starts.
