Last week???s MLB highlights from former Tennessee players in professional baseball include two Double-A call ups for former Vols. Below are the best performances from former Vols during last week???s action.
??? Deunte Heath (2006) was promoted to Class-AA Mississippi Braves from Class-High A Myrtle Beach on Wednesday, June 18. He made his first Southern League start on Thursday against the Montgomery Biscuits. Heath pitched five innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on three hits. He walked five, struck out one and surrendered a home run. The Braves lost the game to the Biscuits 6-3. Heath fell to 0-1 with a 3.60 ERA. He is expected to make his second start for the Braves this Thursday against the Birmingham Barons.
??? J.P. Arencibia (2005-07) was called up to the Class-AA affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, last week. He is batting .291 through six games for the Fisher Cats with seven hits, three doubles, one home run and six RBI. Arencibia made a good impression in his Eastern League debut, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI on Tuesday night. His first home run, a three-run shot, came in a 6-1 win over the Portland Sea Dogs on Friday night. The Fisher Cats are 4-2 since the arrival of Arencibia. ??? Julio Borbon (2005-07) has continued to be a part of the Bakersfield Blaze successful 2008 season. He is leading the team with a .309 batting average to go along with 36 stolen bases this season which is fourth in all of minor league baseball. ??? Chase Headley (2004-05) is batting .292 in six games with the San Diego Padres since being recalled from Class-AAA Portland on June 17. In those games, he has seven hits, a double, two home runs and two RBI. He went 2-for-4 on Friday in the Padres 6-2 win over the Detroit Tigers. Headley hit a home run, his second in the majors and first at Petco Park. His first MLB home run came Wednesday in an 8-5 loss to the New York Yankees.
