Last week???s MLB highlights from former Tennessee players in professional baseball include a catcher being named to a mid-season all star team and another big offensive week for a rookie. Below are the best performances from former Vols during last week???s action.
?????J.P. Arencibia (2005-07) has been named to the mid-season Florida State League All-Star Team. Arencibia ranks fourth in the Florida State League with a .319 batting average and as of May 30 was batting .343 for the month of May. Arencibia leads the league in RBI (49) and extra-base hits (27) and is second in the league with 10 home runs. On Sunday, he went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and two RBI as the Dunedin Blue Jays defeated the Lakeland Flying Tigers 4-0.
?????Julio Borbon (2005-07) had another strong week at the plate, going 10-for-30 (.333) with eight runs scored and six RBIs. His top performance of the week was a 2-for-5 performance on Wednesday against the Vialia Oaks where the rookie scored three runs, had three RBI, a double and hit his first home run of the year. The Bakersfield Blaze won the ballgame 13-7. Borbon leads the team with a .319 average; ranks second with 66 hits and is fourth on the team with 24 RBI.
?????Deunte Heath (2006) earned his seventh win of the season on Wednesday as the Myrtle Beach Pelicans defeated the Winston-Salem Warthogs 4-3. Heath pitched six innings giving up three runs on six hits while walking one and striking out three. Heath has a 7-2 record with a 3.60 ERA after 11 starts this season. His seven wins are tops on the team.??
?????Chase Headley (2004-05) has continued his hot hitting for the Portland Beavers, carrying a .308 average into the month of June. He collected 45 hits during the month of May, the most by a Portland batter in a calendar month since the team returned to the Pacific Coast League in 2001. He ranks fourth in the PCL in doubles (18). Headley has a six-game hitting streak snapped Thursday night but drew three walks. During the streak, he went 10-for-27 (.370). Went 4-for-5 with a homer, double, walk, RBI and two runs on May 25 at Salt Lake City.
