Last week???s MLB highlights from former Tennessee players in professional baseball include a rookie pitcher being named to his league???s All-Star team and a winning performance by another Vol pitcher. Below are the best performances from former Vols during last week???s action.
?????Deunte Heath (2006) was named to the Carolina League???s All-Star team announced on Tuesday. Heath is a member of the first-half Southern Division Champion Myrtle Beach Pelicans. He and the rest of the Pelican pitching staff ended the first half with a league best 3.18 ERA. The Pelicans will host the California vs. Carolina League All-Star Game on June 24. On Friday, Heath earned his Carolina League tying ninth win of the season in six innings of work. Heath gave up seven hits, three runs (one earned) while walking two and striking out four. The Pelicans won 12-3 over the Salem Avalanche.
?????J.P. Arencibia (2005-07) had another good week at the plate for the Dunedin Blue Jays. On Wednesday, he went 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored in a 10-6 loss to the Daytona Cubs. On Tuesday, he went 2-for-4 with another home run, two more RBI, a run scored and a walk in an 8-6 victory over the Daytona Cubs. Arencibia continues to be atop the leader board for California League batting statistics.?? He ranks top five in batting average (.315), second in home runs with 13 and is first in RBI with 62, 18 ahead of second place.
?????Luke Hochevar (2003-05) earned his fourth win of the season on Saturday as the Kansas City Royals defeated the Arizona Diamonbacks 12-3. Hochevar went seven innings, giving up 10 hits, three runs (only two earned), while walking none and striking out six. He now has a 4-5 record with a 4.66 ERA.
?????Julio Borbon (2005-07) raised his batting average 15 points this week from .304 on Monday to a blistering .319 at the end of the day Sunday. He finished up the week with a 4-for-4 performance including a home run, a run scored and an RBI in Sunday???s 3-2 win over the San Jose Giants. On Monday he went 2-for-4 with a double in a 4-3 loss to the Stockton Ports.????
