June 13, 2008 | Baseball
The 2008 USA Baseball National Trials Team played its first game Thursday night, and all Tennessee outfielder Kentrail Davis did was post a game-high three hits and four RBI while belting a pair of home runs as the Trials Team blanked the Keene Swamp Bats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League 11-0 at Alumni Field in Keene, N.H.
It was an impressive debut for Davis, coming on the first day of actual competition for the elite group of 32 players vying for a spot on the 22-man roster, which will be announced June 24. The players arrived in New Hampshire this week and had one day of practice and evaluation before Thursday???s opening game.
A Freshman All-America honoree from Theodore, Ala., Davis went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and a solo blast to go along with a bunt single and a walk. He also scored three times while starting in center field.
National Team Trials competition continues Friday as the U.S. squad travels to Holyoke, Mass., to face the Holyoke Sox of the NECBL at MacKensie Stadium.
Tennessee pitcher Bryan Morgado is also taking part in the Team Trials, and the hard-throwing left-hander likely will see his first action Friday.
