Vols in professional baseball update

Last week's MLB highlights from former Tennessee players in professional baseball include a hot week at the plate for a rookie and another strong pitching performance by a young pitcher.

Luke Hochevar (2003-05) earned his third win of the season since being called up on April 20. On Wednesday he threw six solid innings, giving up on four hits and no runs while walking three and striking out five in the Kansas City Royal's win over the Detroit Tigers. Hochevar now has a record of 3-2 with a 3.94 ERA. Since being called up from Triple A Omaha, he has shown the ability to work out of jams. In all of his starts except for his first outing, he has worked six or seven solid innings. He has been successful at inducing ground balls, getting eight outs that way against the Tigers on Wednesday.
Todd Helton (1993-95) helped the Colorado Rockies to a 6-2 win over the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. Helton drove in three runs on a day where he went 2-for-4 with a run scored. The RBIs came from his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot, along with a two-run single.
Chase Headley (2004-05) went 3-for-5 with two RBI and his seventh home run in the Portland Beaver's 11-2 win over the Las Vegas 51s on Sunday. Headley has now homered in four of his last five games. He was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle, reached base four time and scored a season high four runs in the win. Headley is now batting .290 on the season.
Julio Borbon (2005-07) had another hot week at the plate. In the Bakersfield Blaze 9-2 loss on Friday to the Lancaster JetHawks, Borbon went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. On Wednesday, he went 2-for-5 with one run scored in 7-2 win over the High Desert Mavericks. He started off the week with a 2-for-4 performance with a double and a run scored in 4-1 victory over the Mavericks. Through 33 games this season, Borbon has 45 hits, 13 doubles, 17 stolen bases and a .317 batting average.
