Last week???s MLB highlights from former Tennessee players in professional baseball include a impressive offensive week from a rookie and saw a hitting streak come to an end for another Vol. Below are the best performances from former Vols during last week???s action.
?????Julio Borbon (2005-07) put on an offensive show this week to raise his average from .295 to .320. Borbon went 11-for-27 (.407) this week with six doubles, five RBIs and four runs scored. On Wednesday, Borbon went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and four RBI in a 10-6 win over the Modesto Nuts. He followed that up with a 3-for-4 performance on Thursday with a double and one RBI in a 7-3 win over Modesto. His .320 average is now leading the Bakersfield Blaze and he ranks in the top-10 in batting average in the California League.
?????Chase Headley (2004-05) had his five game hitting streak snapped on Friday night. During the streak he went 14-for-24 (.583). On Thursday, Headley went 5-for-5 and reached base in each of his six plate appearances becoming just the 10th Portland batter in eight seasons to log five hits in a game and the first to do so since 2006. He also hit his third home run of the season on Tuesday. He is now batting .304 on the season, going 19-for-39 (.487) in his last nine game to raise his average from .221.??
?????Deunte Heath (2006) lost his first game of the season on Tuesday but is still tops on the Myrtle Beach Pelicans pitching staff with a 4-1 record and a 2.14 ERA. Heath pitched seven innings giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits while walking two, striking out two and giving up one home run. The Pelicans dropped the game 4-3 to the Potomac Nationals.
?????Augie Ojeda (1996) went 1-for-5 with an RBI single in Sunday???s 6-4 loss to the Chicago Cubs. He also went 2-for-5 with a triple in Wednesday???s 5-4 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. Ojeda has maintained his .370 batting average and has now appeared in 19 games this season.
?????James Adkins (2005-07) pitching six innings giving up only two runs on two hits while striking out seven but took the loss on Wednesday as the Island Empire 66ers were shut out by the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Wednesday. Adkins has a 2-2 record with a 3.82 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 7 starts this season.
