Vols in pro baseball update

Major League Baseball and its minor-league system began the 2008 season this past week. The first week is always exciting as teams begin to come together and provide fans with a glimpse of how the rest of the season might shape up. Highlights of the first week include the first start for three former Vol pitchers, along with a game-winning play.
Below are the best performances by former Vols during last week???s action:
Luke Hochevar (2003-05) made his first start for the Class-AAA Omaha Royals on Friday against the Albuquerque Isotopes. Hochevar threw 5 2/3 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits. He walked two and struck out one while taking the loss. He has a 4.76 ERA to start the season.
Eli Iorg (2004-05) doubled to right-center with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning Thursday to give the Class-AA Corpus Christi Hooks an 8-7 victory over the Tulsa Drillers in the season-opener. The Knoxville, Tenn., native is batting .357 with three RBI to start the year.
James Adkins (2005-07) started his first game for the Class-A Inland Empire 66ers on Saturday against the Visalia Oaks. The left-hander pitched four innings, giving up one walk, two hits and no earned runs to earn his first win of the season.
Deunte Heath (2006) also got his first start of the season for the Class-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Saturday against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Heath earned his first win of the year, pitching five innings in which he gave up two hits, one run and three walks while striking out two. The Pelicans defeated the Blue Rocks 4-3.
