April 28, 2008 | Baseball
Last week???s MLB highlights from former Tennessee players in professional baseball include first major league victory for one Vol and a hot week at the plate for another. Below are the best performances from former Vols during last week???s action.
?????Luke Hochevar (2003-05) earned his first major league win on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. He pitched six innings giving up only one run on six hits. The right hander struck out three batters and walked only two. It was his sinker pitch that was critical to his victory, helping him keep the ball down, down to the tune of 11 ground-ball outs and three strikeouts in his recorded 18 outs.??
?????R.A. Dickey (1994-96) was optioned back to Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday as the Seattle Marines needed to make room for closer J.J. Putz who was returning from the disabled list. Dickey???s brush with the majors last about eight days during which he compiled a 0-1 record with a 6.43 ERA in two major league games, including one start.
?????Eli Iorg (2004-05) had an impressive week at the plate for the Corpus Christi Hooks. He went 3-for-4 in Monday???s 8-3 loss to the Midland Rock Hounds. Followed that up with a 3-for-6 performance with three hits, a home run and two RBI in Thursday???s 19-5 victory over Midland. Iorg finished up the week with a solo home run in a 3-2 loss to the Frisco Rough Riders on Saturday. He is batting .274 with three home runs and 11 RBI this season.??
?????Chase Headley (2004-05) drove in two runs versus the Salt Lake Bees last Monday night, his first multi-RBI game of the year. The Portland Beavers fell in that game 9-4. Headley is batting .222 on the year with one home run and eight RBI.
