Davis named SEC Freshman of the Week

Tennessee baseball player Kentrail Davis earned his second SEC Freshman of the Week award Monday after posting a pair of multi-homer games last week and leading the Volunteers to a home series win over Alabama over the weekend.
The SEC Freshman of the Year candidate from Theodore, Ala., hit .462 with six runs, two homers, six RBI and also was perfect in the field during the Alabama series. He belted a solo home run as well as a three-run bomb during UT???s 13-5 win over the Tide on Saturday.
Earlier in the week, Davis crushed a pair of home runs against Austin Peay as part of a 4-for-5 effort in which he set career-highs with four runs and five RBI. Tennessee defeated the projected Ohio Valley Conference champion Governors 16-13.
On the season, Davis leads the Vols with a .370 overall average, 47 hits, 34 RBI and a .471 on-base percentage. His eight home runs tie for the team lead, and he has a team-best three multi-homer games this year. Davis also leads the Vols with 11 multi-RBI games this season to go along with 14 multi-hit performances.
Vanderbilt outfielder David Macias was named the SEC Player of the Week Monday, and Ole Miss junior Lance Lynn claimed SEC Pitcher of the Week honors.
Davis also was named SEC Freshman of the Week on March 10 after hitting .636 during a three-game sweep over Eastern Michigan.
P.J. POLK NAMED TENNESSEE???S CAREacter STAR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Tennessee baseball player P.J. Polk has been selected as UT???s CAREacter Star Athlete of the Week. The CAREacter Program is based on a five-point star system that includes the basic traits of a true champion, whether on or off the field. Those traits are attitude, character, grades, community service and performance.
A true freshman outfielder from Murfreesboro, Tenn., Polk has been one of the Vols??? most improved players through the first half of the season. He is batting .304 on the year with 28 hits and 13 RBI. His 10 extra-base hits include seven doubles, and he is hitting .381 with runners on base.
Polk has seven multi-hit games and three multi-RBI games this year as well.
Polk joins junior third baseman Cody Brown as the UT baseball team???s CAREacter Star honorees this season.
Every week coaches select one student-athlete as their school???s ???Star Athlete of the Week??? based on the aforementioned five criteria. As a reward for their accomplishments, honorees will be recognized each week by their local media and presented with a T-shirt and a letter acknowledging them as their county???s ???Star Athlete of the Week.???
