Lofton, Tyler Smith Make NABC All-District

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The National Association of Basketball Coaches announced the NABC Division I All-District teams, recognizing the nation's best men's collegiate basketball student-athletes. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across America. The 150 student-athletes, from 15 districts, are now eligible for the State Farm Division I All-America teams to be announced on Saturday, April 5, at the 2008 NABC Convention in San Antonio.
Pearl Nominated For USBWA Iba Award
Bruce Pearl is among 12 coaches who have been nominated for the Henry Iba Award that is presented by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association ... Joining Pearl on the list are: Rick Barnes (Texas); Keno Davis (Drake); John Calipari (Memphis); Mike Krzyzewski (Duke); Lon Kruger (UNLV); Sean Miller (Xavier); Matt Painter (Purdue); Rick Pitino (Louisville); Bo Ryan (Wisconsin); Herb Sendek (Arizona State) and Kevin Stallings (Vanderbilt) ... The Henry Iba Award has been presented since 1959 and is named for the legendary Oklahoma State coach.
Chism Named To SEC Community Service Team
Sophomore forward Wayne Chism was featured as the SEC Community Service Team Player of the Week on March 4-9 ... The Jackson, Tenn., native particpated in such events as the Saving Little Hearts Golf Tourney, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Vol Aware Event, and the Salvation Army Bell Ringing Bell event at West Town Mall during the holidays ... A SAAC member, Chism was an Oak Ridge Festival Volunteer and visited kids at the East Tennessee Children Hospital and the Detska Fakultna Nemocnica S Poliklinikou hospital in Bratislava, Slovakia, during the Vols' tour of Europe ... He has also spoken to middle and elementary schools about the importance of academics.
