The Southeastern Conference released its 2008 Preseason Baseball Coaches??? Poll Thursday, and Tennessee was picked to finish sixth in the SEC Eastern Division. The league???s skippers selected Vanderbilt to win the regular-season Eastern Division title and overall conference crown, while Ole Miss was tabbed as the top club in the Western Division.
Tennessee hosts Vanderbilt May 2-4, but Ole Miss is the lone SEC team the Vols are not slated to face during the regular season.
Points for the preseason coaches??? poll were compiled on a 6-5-4-3-2-1 basis for each division, and coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team. Ole Mis received four votes while South Carolina received three.
Tennessee opens the season with a three-game home series against Morehead State Feb. 22-24.
The 2008 conference schedule is set to begin the weekend of March 14-16, with the Vols hosting LSU. The 2008 SEC Tournament will be held May 21-25 at Regions Park in Hoover, Ala.
