Baseball Broadcast Schedule Announced
February 13, 2008 | Baseball
The Tennessee athletic department, in conjunction with the Vol Network, announced the broadcast schedule for UT???s 2008 baseball season Wednesday. All but one of Tennessee???s 56 regular-season games will be audio streamed online at UTsports.com for free. As many as 43 of those games also are scheduled for broadcast locally on WNML The SportsAnimal (AM 990, FM 99.1 & 99.3), with veteran play-by-play man John Wilkerson calling the action.
Never before have so many UT baseball games been streamed online for free. This service, compliments of the Vol Network, allows Volunteer baseball fans outside the local broadcast area an opportunity to follow the action all season long at no cost.
???The Vol Network is very pleased to be able to make all of our radio broadcasts free over the Internet to Tennessee fans all over the world,??? Vol Network General Manager Steve Early said. ???It has become rare in sports to offer radio broadcasts for free online.
???But we, along with the university, feel that this is an important service to fans and families of the Big Orange. This is a particularly nice way for the parents of the student-athletes who live out of state to follow the games.???
Wilkerson is entering his 10th season as the radio play-by-play voice of Tennessee baseball and will be joined for most broadcasts on WNML by veteran color analyst Kyle Hixson. Hixson will conduct one-man audio webcasts of 12 of the 13 games not slated for broadcast on WNML.
Tennessee???s March 2 game against Oklahoma at the Houston College Classic in Houston, Texas, is the lone game not scheduled for Vol Network-sanctioned broadcast coverage. But fans can access the Oklahoma audio webcast feed of that game by purchasing the minimum one-month subscription to ???Oklahoma All-Access??? on SoonerSports.com ($9.95).
WNML The SportsAnimal begins its 2008 Vol baseball coverage with the Feb. 23 contest against Morehead State. The station also will carry UT???s first two games at the Houston College Classic on Feb. 29 and March 1.
Barring any scheduling conflicts with Tennessee men???s or women???s basketball teams active in postseason play, WNML also will broadcast UT???s home baseball games against Eastern Michigan March 8 and LSU March 14-16.
WNML???s nearly continuous baseball coverage begins with that LSU series, with the only regular-season exclusions thereafter being games at Louisville March 19, vs. Belmont May 7 and at Furman May 13. All three of those contests, however, will be aired as free audio webcasts on UTsports.com.
