KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - After leading the University of Tennessee volleyball team to sweeps over Georgia and LSU last weekend, junior Farren Powe has been named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, as well as Lady Vol Athlete of the Week. Over the course of the two victories, Powe recorded an amazing .593 hitting percentage with 18 kills and just two errors in 27 swings as UT extended its current winning streak to a season-long seven matches.
Powe also topped with 11 blocks in the two matches with one solo putback and 11 block assists, in addition to collecting three digs, an assist and an ace. The Mobile, Ala., native set a career high with a stellar .692 hitting percentage in Tennessee's 3-0 sweep over Georgia, pounding out 10 kills on 13 attacks with just a single error. She followed up that performance with an eight-kill, six-block, three-dig effort as the Big Orange easily dispatched LSU in three sets.
Following this weekend's action, Powe took sole possession of first place on the SEC hitting percentage chart with an impressive .417 attack average in league play. During the Orange and White's seven-match winning streak, Powe is hitting an amazing .463 with 45 kills and just seven errors on 82 attacks. She also has a team-high 24 blocks (three solo, 21 assists) during that span.
On the season, Powe leads all Lady Vols with a .308 hitting percentage, ranks second with 76 blocks and third with 163 kills. She is averaging 1.83 kills per set, as well as 0.85 blocks per set and 0.55 digs per set. With 212.0 total points and an average of 2.38 points per set, she ranks third among all UT performers.
Powe becomes the fourth Lady Vol to earn a weekly award from the SEC this season as sophomore Nikki Fowler has been tabbed offensive player of the week on two occasions, while junior Chloe Goldman has earned the defensive award twice as well. Freshman Kelsey Mahoney, meanwhile, claimed the league's freshman of the week award on Oct. 20.
The Orange and White take its league-best, seven-match winning streak on the road next weekend when it travels to Arkansas and Ole Miss. The Lady Vols will take on the Razorbacks at 7 p.m. CT in Fayetteville, Ark., on Fri., Nov. 7, before venturing down to Oxford, Miss., for a 1:30 p.m. CT showdown with the Rebels two days later.
