UT???s No. 3 Ranking Is Highest Ever

The Tennessee Volunteers basketball team achieved its highest ranking ever as it was tabbed No. 3 in this week's Associated Press Poll. The previous high was a No. 4 ranking achieved six times, most recently on Jan. 15, 2001.

The other No. 4 rankings were Dec. 26, 1967, Jan. 16, 1968, Dec. 11, 2000, Dec. 18, 2000, and Jan. 8, 2001.

The Vols were quite successful as the No. 4 team, posting an 8-4 mark. Ironically, UT did not lose its last game with a No. 4 ranking. In fact, the Volunteers defeated Mississippi State, 84-79, on Jan. 20, 2001, before falling to No. 6 the following week. They were, however, beaten earlier that week by Kentucky in Lexington, 84-74.
