Tennessee freshman J.P. Smith won his??opening match Monday afternoon at the Junior U.S. Open??played at Flushing Meadows, N.Y., to advance to the second round.????Smith defeated Kittiphong Wachiramanowong of Thailand when Wachiramanowong retired in the third set with Smith leading 5-7, 7-5, 4-3. The rookie Vol faces Dennis Nevolo in the second round Tuesday.
