Zubor Selected Lady Vol Athlete Of The Week

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ??? Following an undefeated performance at the St. Mary???s Classic over the weekend, University of Tennessee sophomore tennis player Zs??fia Zubor has been selected as the Lady Vol Athlete of the Week, following a unanimous vote by the UT media relations staff.
The native Hungarian teamed up with Caitlin Whoriskey to claim the first-flight doubles title on Friday before taking the sixth-flight singles championship with a trio of wins spread out over Saturday and Sunday.
Zubor and Whoriskey, ranked No. 10 in the nation in the Fila/ITA preseason poll, cruised to victory in all three of their matches. The duo opened with an 8-1 triumph over the Middle Tennessee State tandem of Claudia Szabo and Shannon Hartman before dropping Alex Hirsch and Emilee Malvehy of Wake Forest, 8-4. In the championship match for the top-flight, the UT pairing convincingly defeated North Carolina???s Sanaz Marand and Sophia Grabinksi, 8-3.
In sixth-flight singles play, Zubor continued her dominance, winning all three of her matches without dropping a set. On Saturday, the 5-3 freshman swept N.C. State???s Kristen Bleakley, 6-1, 6-2, and Malvehy, 6-4, 6-3. In the championship contest, Zubor took down Southeastern Conference-foe Adrienne Ellsberry of Georgia, 7-5, 6-4.
The Big Orange will next hit the courts, Sept. 28-30, when it makes the trip to Greenville, S.C., for the Furman Fall Invitational.
