Former Vol Arencibia Leads Auburn To NY-Penn League Title

Former Tennessee baseball player J.P. Arencibia (2005-07) delivered a two-run homer Friday night to lead the Auburn Doubledays to a 4-1 victory over the Brooklyn Cyclones in the New York-Penn League Championship Game at Brooklyn???s KeySpan Park. The victory gave Auburn its first outright NY-Penn League title in more than 30 years.
The Doubledays???Class A short-season affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays???managed just one hit off Cyclones starter Mike Antonini over the first four innings but finally broke through in the fifth on Arencibia???s first playoff homer. Both teams finished with five hits.
The Doubledays this season also claimed their sixth consecutive Pinckney Division Championship. In his first professional season, Arencibia hit .254 in 64 games played. He drove in 27 runs on 59 hits with four homers and 32 runs scored. The Miami, Fla., native also had a team-high 17 doubles.
The former Vols catcher was a two-time All-America selection during his career in Knoxville. This past June, he was one of three Vols drafted in the first round, as he was selected 21st overall by Toronto.
