Retamoza Moves To Second On Tour Money List

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ??? Former Lady Vol Violeta Retamoza is just one tournament away from earning her LPGA card as she broke into the top five on the Duramed Futures Tour money list this week. In 16 tournaments this year, Retamoza has accumulated $49,051 to stand in second on the list. She moved from sixth to second after a runner-up placement at last weekend???s Gettysburg Championship at The Links at Gettysburg in Gettysburg, Penn.??
From Aguascalientes, Mexico, Retamoza carded rounds of 67, 73 and 70 in Gettysburg to finish with a six-under-par 210. Vikki Laing of Musselburgh, Scotland was the overall winner with a nine-under-par 207 (70-68-69) total.
Retamoza will have to hold on to a top-five position on the money list at the ILOVENY Championships, Sept. 7-9, to earn automatic exempt LPGA status for 2008. The next 10 players on the list, who did not already have non-exempt LPGA status, skip the sectional qualifying tournaments and move directly to the LPGA final qualifying school, Retamoza will compete with 143 other players for the purse at the ILOVENY Championships to be held at the par-72 Capital Hills at Albany course in Albany, N.Y.
