Seven Questions with the '07 Newcomers ??? DeAngelo Willingham
August 25, 2007 | Football
Height: 6-0
Weight: 195
Hometown: Saint Mathews, S.C.
Previous School: College of the Desert (Calif.)
UT was the only southern school you looked at coming from California. What set Tennessee apart?
???It was mainly the coaching staff. They don???t try and put players over others in the recruiting process. Everybody gets the same attention and the same chances when they get here.???
Are you glad to be back closer to home now?
???Oh yeah. I???m excited for my parents to see me play. They haven???t been to one of my games in two years.???
A lot of junior colleges and prep schools end up loaded with talent every year, yet College of the Desert lost nine straight to open last season. What was that experience like?
???It was very frustrating. Losing is not something that you get used to, especially when you are as competitive as I am. It???s good to be at a place now where winning is very important.???
You earned the nickname ???Prime Time??? in California. How did that come about?
???I don???t remember who started that. I guess someone decided I was a pretty good cover cornerback. Some of my ways of doing things remind people of Deion Sanders.???
Is there a pro player you think you play like?
???I am mixture of a couple of guys. I am part Champ Bailey because I can cover receivers and support the run. There is some DeAngelo Hall in me, too.???
What kind of town is Saint Mathews, S.C.?
???It is a very small town. I don???t think it would even show up on a map compared to Knoxville.???
What is something people don???t know about you?
???I don???t talk much.???
