BATON ROUGE, La. ??? Former golfer at the University of Tennessee, Golda Johansson, has been hired as an assistant women???s golf coach for the Louisiana State Lady Tigers, LSU head coach Karen Bahnsen announced this week. Johansson graduated from UT in December 2006 after four years as a fixture on Judi Pavon???s squad.
During her time in the Orange and White, Johansson (Lund, Sweden) played 123 rounds for a 76.17 stroke average. She came to UT in 2002, where she immediately made an impact by playing in all 30 rounds and helping the Lady Vols to victories in the Lady Kat Invitational, Auburn Derby Invite and Lady Boilermaker Invitational.
As a sophomore, Johansson was instrumental in getting the Lady Vols to their first NCAA Championships since 2000 as she placed 20th in the NCAA East Regional. Her scores that season counted towards the team total in 16 of the 25 rounds she played. In the process, Johansson lowered her stroke average by 2.1 from her first year.
Tennessee had a breakout year in 2004-05 thanks in part to Johansson contributions. The team took their first victory in postseason play by putting up an 889 total at the NCAA West Regionals. Pavon and company later went on the tie for sixth at the NCAA Championships. Johansson???s second and third round score at regionals and all scores at the national championship counted towards the team total.
UT continued to improve during the 2005-06 season with help from Johansson. The Lund, Sweden, native gathered five top-20 finishes and launched her team to the top of three leader boards (Cougar Classic, Dr. Donnis Thompson Invite, and the NCAA East Regional). The squad from the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invite broke five school records. Johansson earned her first second-team All-SEC award in 2006 and her third Academic All-SEC honor.
Johansson was previously employed as an outside service professional at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Sarasota, Fla. She replaces Allison Akin as assistant to coach Bahnsen.
