Numerous members of the Tennessee baseball team are active in various summer leagues around the country. A total of 10 players from UT's 2007 team are either currently seeing action or are scheduled to join clubs in four different collegiate leagues.Five Vols are set to suit up in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League. Second baseman Tony Delmonico, first baseman Yan Gomes, pitcher Nick Hernandez and pitcher/designated hitter Jeff Lockwood are all going to play for the Cotuit Kettleers. Shortstop Danny Lima, meanwhile, will see action with the Brewster Whitecaps.
Many of the nation's top collegians have spent time in the Cape Cod league. In fact, during the 2006 Major League Baseball season, there were 198 former Cape Cod players on MLB rosters. Tennessee greats such as Todd Helton, Luke Hochevar and Chase Headley are just a few of the many former Vols to have played in the Cape.
Tennessee will be represented in the Coastal Plains League this summer by three active Vols. Pitcher Aaron Everett and outfielder Jarred Frazier are teammates on the Outer Banks Daredevils, and versatile outfielder/infielder Andy Simunic will be joining the Daredevils roster later in the summer.
Vols pitcher Ryne Simpson will be honing his skills with the Woodstock River Bandits of the Valley Baseball League, and infielder Alan Wright is suiting up with the Winter Springs Barracudas of the Florida Collegiate Summer League.
