The Tennessee men's tennis team ends the regular season Saturday when it travels to Athens, Ga., to take on undefeated and top-ranked Georgia at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
"We're excited to play the No. 1 team in the country," head coach Sam Winterbotham said. "It's always good to test yourselves against the best teams in the country. We have shown this season that we are able to compete with anybody."
Georgia (21-0, 10-0 SEC) has the nation's top-ranked singles player and also the No. 1 ranked doubles team. Senior John Isner is 34-4 this season in singles and is the nation's No. 1 ranked player. Isner teams up with junior Luis Flores to form the No. 1 ranked doubles tandem. Isner and Flores are 29-1 this season and are currently on a 17-match win streak. All six positions in the Bulldogs' singles lineup are filled by ranked players. Georgia has three players ranked in the top-20 in singles. Georgia also has two doubles teams ranked in the top-15. The Bulldogs have won the doubles point in every match this season.
The Vols (15-5, 7-3 SEC) are currently in second place in the SEC East. Georgia has already clinched the regular-season SEC title. With a win, Tennessee can clinch a bye in the first round of the SEC tournament. The top four teams in the SEC all receive byes into the second round. Currently, only Georgia and Ole Miss have clinched byes into the second round. The Vols, depending on how the final weekend unfolds, could be anywhere between a No. 3 and No. 6 seed in the tournament. The SEC tournament runs from April 19-22 in Baton Rouge, La.
