Tennessee head coach Phillip Fulmer continued his push for a more physical football team Tuesday with another tough workout of better than two hours at Haslam Field.
He then tried pushing his point across by keeping the offensive linemen on duty for an extra 45 minutes as the Vols' third week of spring drills opened.
"We did a little extra work," Fulmer said by way of understatement. "We've got some guys who need individual attention and some guys who need to pick it up as far as understanding what it takes to play at this level.
"Everybody wants to get on the bus, go on the trips and have a good time. But you really have to do an awful lot of work to get to that point. We have guys who understand, but there are some young guys who don't understand that at this point."
Fulmer gave passing grades to his offensive front in Saturday's scrimmage, saying they just need "a lot less talking and a lot more accountability."
Others who caught the coach's eye in the first full scrimmage session were Arian Foster and LaMarcus Coker at tailback, all the quarterbacks, Xavier Mitchell at defensive end, cornerbacks Marsalous Johnson and Antonio Gaines, as well as Britton Colquitt and Daniel Lincoln in the kicking game.
"We've got a long way to go," Fulmer said. "This is what spring practice is for. If you lose that many good players, you expect to have a lot of work to do and we have a lot of work to do."
Tennessee practices again Thursday before taking more than a week off for spring break. The EdAmerica Orange and White Game is March 31.
