Tennessee's Ramar Smith was named the SEC Freshman of the Week after helping lead the Vols to wins over fifth-ranked Florida and at Georgia last week. It is the third time this season that the Mt. Clemens, Mich., native has earned the weekly award.
Smith has scored in double-figures in 18 games this season, including both of his games last week. He had 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal in Tennessee's 71-65 win at Georgia. The 6-foot-2 point guard scored 10 points with four assists and a steal in Tennessee's win over fifth-ranked Florida. In league games, he led all SEC freshmen in assists (3.13) and steals (1.50) and was second in scoring (13.0 ppg).
Tennessee is the only team in the conference to have three different freshmen win the weekly award this season. Duke Crews and Wayne Chism also won SEC Freshman of the Week honors this year.
