Tennessee athletics director Mike Hamilton announced Thursday a few alterations to the Vols' 2007 and 2008 football schedules. The changes involve only UT's opponents and do not result in playing dates different than those previously scheduled and reported. The Vols' Sept. 22 home opponent for the upcoming season is now Arkansas State after Northern Illinois asked for and was granted a request to shift its game to 2008. Northern Illinois takes the place next season of San Jose State, with the game slated for Oct. 4, 2008, in Knoxville. Another change for 2008 is to the opener, which now has UAB instead of North Carolina State visiting Knoxville on Aug. 30.
North Carolina State's trip to Neyland Stadium has been rescheduled for 2013. Tennessee already is slated to visit Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh for the 2012 season.
The Vols never have met either Arkansas State or Northern Illinois on the football field. Tennessee owns a 2-0 advantage all-time against UAB, with the most recent meeting resulting in a 17-10 UT victory to begin 2005.
Vols assistant football coach Steve Caldwell played linebacker and defensive end for Arkansas State from 1974-77. He is a 1977 graduate of the Jonesboro, Ark., university and earned his master's degree there one year later.
