Bruce and Kim Pearl have announced a $100,000 donation to endow a scholarship in the name of senior basketball player Dane Bradshaw. The Dane Bradshaw Athletic Scholarship Endowment will be awarded to the male or female student-athlete at the University of Tennessee who best epitomizes the characteristics of the Memphis native. Bradshaw has inspired the Pearl family as well as the entire Tennessee basketball program with his commitment to academic achievement, athletic excellence, hard work, team leadership and his personal faith.
"Dane embodies everything that is good about intercollegiate athletics," the second-year Tennessee coach said. "He has helped bring credibility back to Tennessee basketball, both on and off the court. He has a gift to bring out the best in himself while challenging and reaching out to others to join him. His love of family, God and the willingness to accept accountability is something that separates him from others. I am proud to have had the opportunity to coach Dane Bradshaw."
Bradshaw earned his communications degree in three years and is currently working toward his master's degree in sport management. On the court, he became one of the most versatile players in the nation by starting at power forward and serving as the backup point guard for a team that has earned national rankings in both his junior and senior seasons. As a junior he played with a torn ligament in his shooting wrist while leading the Vols to the SEC Eastern Division championship. As the lone senior on the 2007 team he has helped lead the Vols to another 20-win season. In 2006 he was named to SI.com's All-Glue team, a squad picked by Sports Illustrated's Seth Davis to recognize the players who do the little things that make teams stick together. Last week, Davis named Bradshaw the captain of the eighth annual All-Glue team. During that time he has earned the respect of college basketball fans, media, coaches and players in the Southeastern Conference and around the nation.
The UT Athletic Endowment has grown from under $5 million in 1996 to $30 million today. Fans can endow a named scholarship with a minimum gift of $50,000. Those who would like to make a gift to the Dane Bradshaw Athletic Scholarship Endowment or any other existing scholarship endowment can do so by contacting the UT Development Office at (865) 974-1218 or by sending a check to P.O. Box 15016, Knoxville, TN 39701.
