INTERVIEW OF COACH PHILLIP FULMER BEFORE VANDERBILT GAME AT NEYLAND STADIUM
1. How are new players helping make defensive stops, as exemplified by Eric Berry's two interceptions against Arkansas?
A - "Eric Berry is one of the true exceptions in college football -- a freshman having an impact. I counted 21 freshmen or redshirt freshmen who have had an impact on our games. It bodes well for our future."
??
2. What are some contributing factors in Tennessee's improved tackling at this point?
A - "We've put a great focus on it all along. The young players are catching on and gaining the consistency they need to be a good tackling team."
3. With two games to go, how big a stumbling block can Vanderbilt be Saturday (2 p.m. Eastern) when these old rivals meet at Neyland Stadium?
A - "I hope they won't be a stumbling block. They are a good team, very impressive on defense. On offense, they do a good job of balancing the run and the pass. I'm glad to be home again."
4. Tell the emotions that will be in play when the 2007 seniors make their final home appearance Saturday.
A - "It's one of the toughest times for a coach, saying goodbye to the seniors. For us, it's like seeing a child off to college."
5. Explain how freshman Dennis Rogan has provided a spark in the Vols' punt and kickoff return games and in the coverage as well.
A - "Dennis is a heck of a football player and a heck of a young man. Terrific work ethic. Really playing well in the secondary. His biggest contribution has been in the special teams work. We're glad he is here."
