Noting Tennessee
- Tennessee improves to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the SEC. Georgia falls to 4-2 and 2-2 in the SEC.
- The Vols entered the game unranked but receiving votes in both polls; Georgia is ranked 12th by the Associated Press and 11th in the USA Today Coaches??? Poll.
- Tennessee returns to action Oct. 13 when it travels to Starkville, Miss., to face Mississippi State in Davis Wade Stadium. Kickoff time is set for 1:30 p.m. CT, television yet to be announced.
- Today???s contest marked the 37th meeting between Tennessee and Georgia. Tennessee now leads the series 20-15-2.
- Today???s contest marked the seventh meeting between UT head coach Phillip Fulmer and Bulldogs coach Mark Richt, with Richt holding a 4-3 edge.
- Tennessee head coach Phillip Fulmer???s record now stands at 140-43 (.765) in 16 seasons with the Vols.
- Fulmer owns an 88-28 regular-season record against SEC opponents, including a 56-18 mark against Eastern Division teams.
- Fulmer is now 11-5 in home SEC lidlifters.
- Senior quarterback Erik Ainge passed for 165 on 17-of-22 passing today against the Bulldogs.
- Ainge???s 34-yard completion to Denarius Moore vaulted him ahead of Andy Kelly (6,397) into third place on the all-time career passing list at Tennessee. Ainge trails Casey Clausen (9,707) and Peyton Manning (11,201).
- Arian Foster has rushed for six touchdowns the past two seasons against Georgia. Foster had three last season in Athens and had three this season.
- For the game, the junior from San Diego rushed 17 times for 98 yards and three touchdowns.
- Foster???s first carry of the game put him over 1,500 yards rushing for his career.
- Wide receiver Lucas Taylor hit LaMarcus Coker for a 56-yard touchdown pass to give the Vols a 14 point lead. Taylor hit Coker for a 48-yard touchdown against Florida last season. Taylor had a team-high six receptions and 50 yards.
- Tennessee???s opening drive went 12 plays for 81 yards and a touchdown. The Vols rushed the ball nine times on the drive, which is the most on a single drive this season.
- Tennessee has outscored Georgia 72-23 since halftime of last season???s game in Athens. UT outscored the Bulldogs 37-9 in the second half to win 51-33 in 2006 and defeated UGA 35-14 this season.
- Sophomore tailback Montario Hardesty rushed 14 times for 68 yards and one touchdown. The New Bern, N.C. native was only four yards short of his career-high in rushing yardage.
- Sophomore wide receiver Austin Rogers had five catches for a team-high 61 yards.
- At halftime, Georgia had 59 total yards, two first downs and had punted on all seven of its possessions after never being able to penetrate into Tennessee territory. Georgia???s three possessions in the first quarter went for 28 total yards and only one first down.
- Coming into today???s game, UT had forced its opponent to punt only 18 times in 52 drives. The Vols forced Georgia to punt on its first seven possessions today. The Bulldogs punted eight times for the game.
- Senior safety Jonathan Hefney intercepted his first pass of the season and 10th of his career in the fourth quarter. Hefney???s 10 interceptions puts him a tie for 13th place all-time in the Tennessee record book. Hefney intercepted a pass against Georgia last season also.
- Georgia finished the game with 69 yards on 25 rushing attempts. Coming into the game UT was allowing 188.3 rushing yards a game.
- Linebackers Rico McCoy and Jerod Mayo led the Vols with 11 tackles apiece. That is a career-high for McCoy and one short of Mayo???s career high.
- Nevin McKenzie (5) Demonte??? Bolden (4)and Wes Brown (3) tied their career-high in tackles.
- Junior linebacker Ellix Wilson blocked UGA???s punter Brian Mimbs in the second quarter to set up UT???s third score of the game. It was UT???s first blocked punt since Antonio Wardlow blocked a punt against Georgia last season. It was also the first punt Georgia has had blocked since Wardlow.
- Georgia had returned two punts and a kickoff for touchdowns against UT in the past two seasons but Saturday the Vols held the Bulldogs return men in check.Georgia???s Mikey Henderson only managed 11 yards on two punt returns and the Bulldogs only had 55 yards on three kickoff returns today.
- Today???s attendance was 107,052. It???s UT???s largest crowd since the 2005 season.
- Tennessee???s game captains today were seniors Erik Ainge, Chris Brown, Ryan Karl, J.T. Mapu, Xavier Mitchell and junior Britton Colquitt.
- Freshman cornerback Brent Vinson made his first career start. The Hampton, Va., native didn???t move to defense until before the Florida game three weeks ago.
- Junior punter Britton Colquitt recorded a touchback on the opening kickoff. It was the Vols??? first touchback of the season.
- The Vols 28-0 lead at halftime is its largest since leading Texas A&M 28-0 in the 2005 Cotton Bowl.
- Freshman placekicker Daniel Lincoln remains perfect this season on all attempts. The Ocala, Fla., native hit all five of his extra point attempts and did not attempt a field goal against Georgia
