Lincoln Named Special Teams Player of Week

Daniel Lincoln capped Tennessee???s late-game heroics Saturday with two field goals in the Vols??? 27-24 overtime victory against South Carolina, and those efforts earned him SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
The freshman from Ocala, Fla., booted a career-long 48-yarder with five seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to the extra period, and then hit his 27-yard game-winner on Tennessee???s OT possession.
The kicks improved the SEC???s leading field-goal specialist ??? 1.88 made per game and an 88.2 percent success rate ??? to 15-of-17 this season to go with a perfect 29-of-29 on PATs. Lincoln needs just one successful field goal to enter UT???s season top-10 chart and is only two away from tying the school???s freshman record of 17 set by James Wilhoit in 2003.
Speaking of Wilhoit, the Hendersonville product made 18-of-22 field goals during his consensus All-SEC season of 2006. Mostly forgotten is the fact Wilhoit finished the 2005 season with a streak of eight consecutive made field goals. Add Lincoln???s success rate this year, and the Vols as a team now have made a whopping 41 of their last 47 three-pointers for an 87.2 percent success rate.
