Noting Tennessee
- Tennessee falls to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the SEC. Alabama improves to 6-2 and 4-1 in the SEC.
- The Vols entered the game ranked 20th in the Associated Press poll and 22nd in the USA Today Coaches??? poll; Alabama was unranked.
- Tennessee returns to action Oct. 27 when it hosts South Carolina at Neyland Stadium. Kickoff time is 7:45 p.m. on ESPN.
- Today???s contest marked the 90th meeting between Tennessee and Alabama. The Vols now trail the all-time series 38-45-7 (.461).
- The series is now tied at 4-4 in games played in Tuscaloosa.
- Today marked the fourth all-time head-to-head meeting between UT head coach Phillip Fulmer and Alabama head coach Nick Saban, with Saban holding a 3-1 edge. This was their first meeting with Saban guiding the Crimson Tide.
- Tennessee head coach Phillip Fulmer???s record now stands at 141-44 (.762) in 16 seasons with the Vols.
- Fulmer owns an 89-29 regular-season record against SEC opponents, including a 33-11 mark against Western Division teams.
- Fulmer is now 13-4 against teams from the state of Alabama.
- Longtime UTAD employee Gus Manning, a consultant to the Athletics Director, was present today for his 62nd consecutive Tennessee-Alabama game. The streak began with the 1946 Homecoming contest in Knoxville (a 12-0 UT win in a matchup of top-10 teams).
- Manning???s employment with the UTAD began in 1951, when he was hired by Gen. Robert R. Neyland.
- Senior quarterback Erik Ainge now owns a 21-9 record as a starter, including a 10-4 mark on the road.
- Ainge today moved into a tie for 18th place on the SEC???s all-time passing touchdowns list. He now has 54 touchdown passes in his career and is tied in league annals with former Florida signal caller John Reaves (1969-71).
- With a 9-yard reception today in the first quarter, senior tight end Chris Brown extended his streak of games with at least one catch to 10. That is the second-longest streak by a Vols tight end during the Fulmer era (1992-present). Current Dallas Cowboys All-Pro tight end Jason Witten caught a pass in 17 consecutive games from 2001-02.
- Junior tailback Arian Foster put the Vols on the scoreboard today with a 2-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. It was his second career touchdown against Alabama. Foster is UT???s active career leader with 19 touchdowns.
- Foster today also moved into 16th place on Tennessee???s career rushing list with 1,826 yards. He is 24 yards shy of tying Andy Kozar (1950-52) for 15th place.
- Foster hauled in a 53-yard pass in the first quarter that marked the longest reception of his career and quarterback Erik Ainge???s longest completion of the season. Foster also finished with a career-high 74 receiving yards.
- Tennessee???s offense has allowed no quarterbacks sacks since the second game of the season and has allowed just two on the year. The Vols lead the FBS in sacks allowed.
- Starting quarterback Erik Ainge has been sacked just once this year. He has attempted 253 straight passes without being sacked. His only sack came against California in the season-opener in what would have been his third pass attempt of the game.
- The Vols average one sack allowed for every 132.5 pass attempt this season.
- Senior linebacker Ryan Karl led the Vols today with a career-high 11 tackles.
- Freshman cornerback Brent Vinson (7) and sophomore cornerback Marsalous Johnson (8) also posted career-highs in tackles today.
- Sophomore defensive end Wes Brown, a native of Athens, Ala., tied a career-high with three tackles.
- Sophomore linebacker Rico McCoy recorded his first career sack today.
- Alabama quarterback John Parker Wilson threw for 363 yards today, marking the first time Tennessee has allowed a 300-yard passer since Vanderbilt???s Jay Cutler threw for 315 yards on Nov. 19, 2005.
- Parker???s passing total is the highest by a Vol opponent since Auburn???s Jason Campbell threw for 374 yards in the 2004 SEC Championship Game.
- Today???s attendance was 92,138
- Tennessee???s game captains today were seniors Erik Ainge, Chris Brown, Xavier Mitchell, Casey Woods and juniors Demonte??? Bolden and Jerod Mayo.
- Redshirt freshman tight end Luke Stocker gave the Vols a 14-10 lead today with his first career touchdown catch (just his second career reception).
- Playing in his first SEC game, true freshman wide receiver Gerald Jones made his first career catch on a third-quarter third-down play. Jones finished the day with two catches for 27 yards.
- Tennessee had season-highs today in both penalties (11) and penalty yards (81). The Vols??? 10 penalties were their most since they committed 12 at Kentucky in 2005.
