Vols in the NFL -- Week 4 Highlights
October 02, 2007 | Football
Week four in the NFL was highlighted by a pair of former Tennessee stars squaring off in Indianapolis and a trio of solid defensive efforts from ex-Volunteers.?? Below are the best performances from former Vols during the weekend???s action.
?????Running back Jamal Lewis paced the Cleveland offense on the ground with 64 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries in the Browns??? 27-13 win over the Ravens. Lewis has 371 rushing yards through four games, a mark good enough for seventh in the league.
?????Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning played a very efficient game Sunday, completing 20 of 27 passes for 193 yards and three touchdowns in the Colts 38-20 come-from-behind win over the Broncos. Manning has thrown for three touchdowns in a game twice this season and 10 times in the last three seasons.
?????A Denver game plan that stressed the running attack and clock control made for a big day for running back Travis Henry, who rushed for 131 yards on 26 carries. Henry likely would have posted even bigger numbers had he not left the game temporarily in the third quarter with an ankle injury. He currently leads the NFL in rushing yards with 433.
?????Dallas tight end Jason Witten continued to make significant contributions for the Cowboys, hauling in six passes for 71 yards and a touchdown in the team???s 35-7 rout of the Rams. Witten is averaging 15 yards a catch and has three touchdowns through four games.
?????Defensive Quick Hits: Seattle defensive back Deon Grant posted five tackles in the Seahawks??? 23-3 win Sunday over San Francisco ??? The Seattle defense allowed just 75 passing yards and 184 total yards in the game ??? Buffalo cornerback Jabari Greer posted five tackles and a pass defense in the Bills??? 17-14 win over the Jets on Sunday ??? It was the fourth start of Greer???s career and his first this season ??? Philadelphia linebacker Omar Gaither posted 10 tackles and his second career interception in the Eagles??? 16-3 loss to the Giants ??? Gaither is second on the team with 24 tackles through four games.
