Paint The Town Orange Contest Details
The University of Tennessee Athletics Department is asking fans to help them "Paint the Town Orange" for the Lady Vols game against the Kentucky Wildcats on Feb. 11 and the men's game against Kentucky on Feb. 13.
"In conjunction with these games, we are rolling out a city-wide promotion called 'Paint the Town Orange' to get fans excited about the game and encourage them to come out in their orange," said Mike Hamilton, men's athletics director. "Our fans really got excited about last year's checkerboard promotion at the Kentucky game, and we were looking for another way to build excitement for this year's game. Our goal is to have every Tennessee fan wear orange to the game."
Last year for the men's game against Kentucky, UT Athletics partnered with East Tennessee Natural Gas to create a human checkerboard in the lower bowl of Thompson-Boling Arena.
In addition to coming to the game in their orange, fans are also encouraged to decorate their businesses, schools/classrooms, homes and cars with UT colors to win prizes from UT Athletics. Judges will base their decision on creativity and using the theme: "Paint the Town Orange", Tennessee logos, Smokey, etc. Fans can submit pictures of their decorations via the UT web sites (www.UTSPORTS.com or www.UTLADYVOLS.com). Deadline to submit is Monday, Feb. 12 at 4 p.m.
"Both of our teams have a great rivalry with Kentucky," said Joan Cronan, women's athletics director. "With both teams playing Kentucky within a few days of each other, we believe this will be a great opportunity for Tennessee fans to really show their enthusiasm for Tennessee basketball."
Partners for the promotion are the Knoxville News-Sentinel, Coca-Cola, Golden Flake and Tennessee Donor Services.
