MINDY FLYNN NAMED LADY VOL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Sophomore middle blocker Mindy Flynn has been named Lady Vol Athlete of the Week for the week of August 28, as voted by the Lady Vol media relations staff. Flynn, of Louisville, Ky., earned tournament MVP honors in last weekend's Comcast Lady Vol Classic, after helping No. 11 Tennessee claim the tournament championship and a 3-0 start to the season.
Flynn tallied 25 kills with just one attack error in 53 attempts (.453 hitting percentage) over the course of the three-match tournament. Her 12 kills versus Miami University on Saturday were a career-high for the sophomore. Earlier in the day, Flynn set another personal-best mark with an impressive .667 (10-0-15) hitting percentage in the Lady Vols' sweep of Centenary. On Friday night, Flynn registered three kills, six digs, and four block assists in the victory over Virginia.
For the weekend, Flynn totaled 25 kills, seven assists, nine digs and 10 blocks in 11 games.
Flynn and the rest of the Lady Vols will travel to Los Angeles Sept. 1-3 to take part in the LMU/USC Hilton LAX Invitational. Tennessee's opponents will include Loyola Marymount (Fri., Sept. 1 at 10pm), defending Atlantic Coast Conference champions North Carolina (Sat., Sept. 2 at 4pm), and 14th-ranked Southern California (Sun., Sept. 3 at 7 pm).
